The goal of the F-35 Fastener Prep and Kittening System (FastPAKS) is to sort and prepare fasteners for the fighter’s wing assembly at a faster rate. So building out an inventory is not an option the end-to-end process of treating and installing the fasteners must occur quickly. ![]() However, the challenge with this process is that it consumes too much time and that the fasteners (when they’re chemically treated) have a shelf-life of 5 days.
